The Blood of the Lamb
We are entering the season of Passover and Easter- the celebrations will soon begin!
It is recorded in the Old Testament book of Exodus, that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob heard the cries of His Hebrew children for deliverance from slavery. God raised up Moses and Aaron to go to the Egyptian Pharoah and demand, “let my people go”. To summarize the events, Pharoah resisted, but Lord Yahweh fought for His peoples’ freedom, by revealing His power and sending plagues upon Egypt. In the last plague, a death angel was sent to pass by every household and take the firstborn. This plague would finalize the Israelites release, and bring judgment upon the enemy.
God gave the Israelites explicit instructions on how to keep “Passover.” To avoid the death angel, each household was to take an unblemished and perfect lamb. “They shall take the blood of the lamb and put it on the two side posts and on the lintels of the houses in which they shall eat the Passover lamb. The blood shall be for a token or sign upon the doorposts of the houses where you are, that when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt”. The blood of a lamb protected and caused the death angel to “Passover” the Israelites.
As Christians, Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb. Yeshua, the Son of Yehweh came down from the heavenly realm, and lived a perfect and sinless life- the perfect Lamb of God- “Behold the lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world”. The Bible teaches that blood is required for the payment of sin, and Jesus freely gave His life’s blood for the sin of mankind, once and for all- “it is finished”. When we receive this gift and believe – it makes us spiritually alive and we will never die, but have eternal life! Our Savior defeated death, hell, and the grave -the tomb is empty and He is alive!
The power of the blood of Jesus not only purchased our salvation, but throughout our earthly journey, it continues to give us protection against the enemy, and the power to overcome the deception of the serpent – “They overcame him by the word of their testimony and the blood of the lamb” (Rev12). “Be well balanced and alert, because your enemy, the devil, roams around incessantly, like a roaring lion looking for its prey to devour” (1Peter 5). When believers “plead the blood” over situations in prayer, we are standing by faith, in the protective power of the blood of the Lamb. Satan and his demons tremble and retreat in the spiritual realm, when the precious blood of Jesus is held up in faith- it will never lose its power!
Today, we celebrate and acknowledge the power of the Lamb that was slain, our risen Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords!
