For many people, December is one of the busiest times of the year! Being lovers of God, we long for our outward life and our inner spiritual life to be connected. We desire to continually walk in the Spirit, while giving God the opportunity to direct our path and stay close in our heart and mind. Yet at times, the demanding cares of this world, added to our legitimate obligations and duties seem to pull us out of this desired spiritual abiding place of peace. Then, as we get pulled out of the peace that passes understanding- it is easy to get pulled into the anxiety and frenzy of what I call driven doing- even good things!
One morning many years ago, I got up early to spend time with the Lord before my busy day of family and ministry began. He spiritually re-charged me, and I thought I was ready for the day! As I quickly jumped up and ran off from the place where I connected with the lover of my soul, I heard the Spirit’s sweet voice of Truth saying, “Deborah don’t leave me here- take me with you! Now that got my attention! Many times, that is what we mistakenly do!
Isaiah 26:3-4 tells us that God will guard and keep us close, in His perfect peace. He is constantly seeking to bring those whose mind and heart; inclination and character stays connected to and on Him. This peace that passes understanding comes to those who commit themselves to lean on, rely on, and hope confidently in His faithfulness! We are spiritually alive, and not driven or burnt out!
“So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages] (Isaiah 26
