When Jesus entered Gethsemane, Satan violently attacked Him. The adversary struck Jesus vehemently, using the aggressive demons of terror and fear in an attempt to stop Jesus’ sacrificial offering. In the garden, the Lord cautioned His disciples about their weakness and the tempter’s power. Then He counseled them and showed them by example how to overcome the Enemy’s persuasion using the weapon of “crying out prayer” from the heart. Even so, the disciples slept, both physically and spiritually, as Jesus wrestled and prevailed over the Enemy.
Today Satan uses this same methodology to keep us from knowing God’s enormous love and fulfilling His will in our lives. Fear and terror cripple us and keep us abound from experiencing Jesus Christ in all His magnificence and freedom. In my life there are many times when I recognize that the Enemy is attacking. Through experience I have learned that when I cry out “Shelter me, oh Lord” from my heart, God pushes Satan back to protect and defend me from his vigorous assaults. It is God’s will that we triumph through Christ Jesus over the adversary.
Shelter me, oh Lord!
“And [Jesus] began to be struck with terror and amazement and deeply troubled and depressed” (Mark 14:33b).
“Keep awake and watch and pray [constantly], that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again and prayed: (Mark14:38-39a).
“For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary” (Psalm61:3).
