Scripture tells us to be satisfied with our present circumstances. First, to be content in our present circumstances, we must learn how to put the past down. God wants to teach each of us how to process through the past, so we can let it go, and live in the present. Second, He wants us to be able to trust and believe Him to fulfill the future plans He has put in our hearts. But while we are waiting, we must learn to be content in the present. Many good people never learn to do this, because focusing on the negative blinds us from the truth of where we are going. It can be wearisome to believe that God is using our hard, present circumstances to build positive qualities into our lives and bring about good things that we are clueless about. When we are frustrated with things staying the same, and we feel like running away from our present circumstances, we must remember we are where we are right now because we still need to be there! He is love and wants only the best for us! He promises that He will not, will not, will not fail us or give up on us or leave us without support. Through faith, as we learn to count on God’s faithful love in our present circumstances, and understand He is with us in the now, we will experience a living relationship with a living God! True contentment is a heart condition that circumstances cannot steal. Learning to be satisfied in our circumstances is a quality that God desires to build into our spiritual character so that we will be able to find true, lasting peace in our present and future.
“Be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]: for He [God] Himself has said, ‘I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down [relax My hold on you]! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13:5b).
