When we hear the biblical word “repent” most likely we think of someone angry, and yelling about what we’ve done wrong! But when Jesus spoke of repentance it was never spoken in anger, but in wisdom and love. He calls us to repent(turn away from self sufficiency-trying to do it on our own-apart from Him) so we can learn to experience His grace. When we turn from struggling in self-sufficiency, God’s grace is available to set us free; free to love, free to live life, and free to find our destiny. The word repent means to turn about and change. We do not have the ability to really change ourselves, that is why we must turn about and return to our Source and Savior. To return is not to go back-rather, the return is accomplished by moving forward. As we turn about, and move toward God, we will ultimately find out how to be self-sufficient in Christ sufficiency, not trying to be self-sufficient in and of ourselves and experience real positive change in our lives.
