Why do we sometimes run to God for help and at other times try to fix things ourselves apart from God? Well let’s look at several matters that maybe influencing us. When we turn to God for help, many of us have a “happy meal” mentality. Like at the drive through, fast-food restaurant; we place our request at the microphone, pull up to the window, and expect our meal which includes a prize-all within a few minutes’ time. Some of us pray like this when we ask for God’s help. When the answer to the problem doesn’t come in a short amount of time, we pull away from “God’s microphone”, as our faith flies out the window, and we turn toward something else to get relief. Then there are those who believe they don’t deserve to be helped because they have made so many mistakes. They fear that God will reject them because He is mad with them. Finally, many people who struggle and refuse to go to God for help have a great deal of anger toward Him. They question, “if God is good, why do so many bad things happen in this world”? All these reasons keep many from crying out and receiving His help, but these beliefs are not grounded in the truth. God’s truth will set us free when we are ready to accept it. We don’t need to be perfect to be helped… We only need to want Him to help. As we keep on asking, seeking, and knocking, Jesus will move us toward His light and fulfill all His promises. Jesus Christ lives and longs to open the door so we can experience abundant life on earth and in the next life.
“Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8).
