Jesus calls those who are overwhelmed, overburdened, and struggling to come to Him to find help. He offers Himself as the way out for struggling human beings to find rest, even as they are living in a stressful world. When we have labored long and feel physically or mentally exhausted, His gentle call is “Come to me, I will help you find relief.”
Because of His great love, the Lord is always intimately concerned about the state of our minds and hearts. If we are “going under,” it is His will to continuously lift us up and help us. But during trying times, negativity will often pull at our hearts with lies-God doesn’t care about me; God is punishing me; God is like people who have hurt me-and our faith in a loving God derails along the road of disappointment and unbelief.
Nevertheless, Jesus continues to call, and we must make the choice to turn to Him for help- or to keep listening to the negative thoughts that will lead us to try to figure things out apart from Him. Listen to His call today: “Come to Me, and I will cause you to rest. I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.”
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls]” (Matthew 11:28).
