As believers we all long to witness the “glory of God.” That is, we desire God’s true, magnificent nature to be revealed for all to experience and encounter while living in our world. Mary and Martha longed to see the true glory of God. Then their brother Lazarus died while Jesus was away, and they struggled to understand how anything good, especially God’s glory could come out of their suffering and loss. When we hurt and life feels discombobulated, it is hard to believe that God is still working things out. Yet Jesus reminded both sisters that if they would believe in Him and rely on Him, the glory of God would appear and be displayed for all to see. The two women chose to walk past their fear and doubt; Then believe.. and just as Jesus promised… the glory of God was manifest as He raised Lazarus from the grave. Because of this, many more believed in Jesus. It’s amazing how God used these sisters’ belief and reliance on Him to bring about the fulfillment of His promise. When we cannot understand or get a grip on what is happening in our circumstances, we must follow the example of Mary and Martha and work on looking to Jesus. Remember Jesus’ words: “Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40).
We must believe!
“Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?”(John 11:40).
