Overcoming Negative Meditation
It’s true and very simple, when we continually focus on what is wrong with people, circumstances, ourselves, etc., it is very easy to become a habitually negative complainer, without even realizing who we are becoming! The emotions of jealously, pride, fear, anger, and hurt are usually attached to the heart of a negative thinker.
Please don’t misunderstand- there is a time we must look at the negative, in order to cast it onto the Lord through prayer and seek His direction, but becoming constantly obsessed and focused on what is wrong creates more bondage and engagement with anxiety, fret, and worry. This negative meditation will create more negative words and the negative words will create more negativity – inside and out- it is a vicious cycle! Living in negativity is a deceptive place that goes against the light and truth that Christ desires to put our hearts. Negative fretting and worry will never solve anything, but will actually hinder us from finding a solution to the issues that have set up our anxiety. Our first choice must be to humble ourselves and recognize we need God’s mercy, grace and power to overcome the habit of negative thinking. We are in need of the Holy Spirit to make God’s Word alive in our hearts and minds, as He reveals His positive wisdom and way, which includes faith, hope, and love. Next, we must learn to habitually talk out and release our negative feelings and words onto Jesus, which means that we tell Him how we feel and bring our request to Him- Casting all our cares on Him!
As we process out our negativity onto Jesus, the weight of worry will begin to lift and be released! Our focus will be on our Lord’s grace, favor, overcoming power, and His ability to do what He has promised in His Word. In our lives, the Holy Spirit will facilitate the process of knowing Jesus passionately, which will create growing and on-going peace and heart rest. As we continue through the process of life, this awesome peace from God will enable us to rise above negativity, even as it creates optimistic meditation and a positive outlook on our present lives and future destiny!
“Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ. So, keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Follow the example of all that we have imparted to you and the God of peace will be with you in all things (Philippians4:6-8tPt).
“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving continue to make your wants known to God, And God’s peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians4:6-7amp).
