Many times, we make important decisions and plans for the future based on our fears of what might possibly happen, or what might not happen. Our anxiety drives us into figuring mode, as we charge ahead with our self-motivated plans- then we ask God’s blessing. We make decisions like blind guides rushing forward, and ultimately falling into a ditch.
But God always has a better way and a better plan for our lives and future! His motivation is love, and His plans are always working together for our good. He longs to prosper our soul, as He shows forth His favor, wisdom, and victory in our lives. But we must be willing to humble ourselves, be still, abide in His presence, listen, trust, rely, and lean on the Lord by faith and if needs be- repent, which enables us to walk with a clear conscience. Many times, Jesus said, “He who has hears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit will say”.
Regarding making decisions and plans with the Lord; Wisdom declares that our hearts must first embrace mercy, kindness, and truth, while shutting out hatred, selfishness, deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood. The motivations of hatred, selfishness, and hypocrisy have caused many a person, to walk in error, and make detrimental decisions and choices. As we invite mercy, kindness, and truth to be our hearts foundation, we will find favor with God and man. Next, we must trust in the Lord completely, and not rely on our own opinions, insights or understanding. In all our ways, we must know, recognize and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain our paths. He goes before us, knowing what is ahead! He will hold your hand, walk next to you, and carry the weight life brings. With our whole heart we must rely on Him to guide us, and lead us in every decision. When we become intimate with Him in whatever we do, he will lead us wherever we go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for true wisdom comes when you adore and rely on him with awe and wonder. God will help us walk through the growing process, as we wait for God’s timing, trust in His perfect plan, and rely on Him. When we trust in the Lord with our whole heart, we will find the healing refreshment our body and spirit long for.
“Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out all hatred and selfishness] and truth [shutting out all deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood] forsake you: bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart. So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight of God and man. Lean on, trust in and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him and He will direct and make straight and plain you paths” (Proverbs 3: 3-6).
