Open Your Hands
The dictionary states that the work casting is a verb meaning “to throw something away from yourself.” Yet we cannot throw or let go of anything until we learn to open our hands and hearts. Without realizing it, we hold on to our worries, doubts, uncertainties, and fears grasping them tightly from sunrise to sunset. The fretfulness and nervousness we feel keeps our hearts bound in the condition of “anxiety”. Then we feel overwhelmed and don’t know how to let go of the exhausting effects of our problems. Yet in spite of the negative emotional and spiritual clamor, Christ gently and sweetly calls us to hand over our anxieties, worries, and concerns to Him. In my experience over the years, the Lord has showed me how to cast my care on Him. In the beginning, the Holy Spirit instructed me to literally open my physical hands while I poured out my heart to God in prayer. Our open hands are a picture of our hearts, which helps us believe by giving us a visual focal point as we talk to God. Literally opening our hands as we pray symbolically represents the heart that is open to God for help and care.
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He care for you affectionately and cares bout you watchfully” (1Peter 5:7).
