Our natural man has the tendency to worry about all the cares of this world, and there are many! But our spiritual man longs to rise above this worry and care by overcoming faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We long to walk in victory through the daily ups and downs of life! We don’t stick our head in the ground like the ostrich out of fear, but we raise our spiritual eyes to the Truth and Light as we constantly lean on, rely on, and count on the One who has the power to calm our souls and deepen our spiritual walk during trials.
Jesus tells us to forsake our worries, and not to be concerned about our earthly necessities and needs. Yet even as followers of Christ, we sometimes get pulled into worry and being anxious about all the many cares of this life. But there seems to be so many legitimate things to worry about! Many of us get overwhelmed by worrying about things that happened yesterday, what’s happening today, and the possibilities of what might happen tomorrow-all at once. We all long to be able to put our anxious worries down, but Satan uses his biggest weapon, which is fear, to torment and push us to grasp for some sort of counterfeit control, as trust and faith in our Faithful Lord diminishes.
Our loving Lord Jesus wants to help us! He knows we cannot overcome the anxiety and fear we carry in our heart and mind without Him. So He tells us to be a God chaser – to seek the Kingdom of God first and above all else. What is the kingdom of God? The scripture teaches that the Kingdom of God lives within us, which means God’s Holy Spirit and our spirit are united supernaturally through Christ. This connection produces a powerful spiritual Kingdom within us that creates a desire for goodness, a peace that passes understanding and joy that is full of His glory. This inner kingdom will have great influence on our outer life, others, and will give us the power to defeat and change our negative patterns of worry. As we seek the Kingdom of God first and become a God chaser- light, love, faith, and hope will become a growing, courageous, overcoming, vibrant part of our sacred journey.
While on this path, Jesus counsels us to courageously learn to trust Him one day at a time, and when it is really hard, learn to trust Him one moment at a time. God desires that we grow and progress in our earthly spiritual journey with Him, so listen to His instruction to successfully defeat anxiety and worry-one day at a time!
“So then, forsake your worries! Why would you say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For that is what the unbelievers chase after. Doesn’t your heavenly Father already know the things your bodies require? So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly. Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.” Matthew 6: 31-33 tPt
