Just like the leper, some of us have seen and heard of Jesus’ mighty power to heal those in need. We believe He has the authority and ability to bring us wholeness, but at the same time we doubt whether He is willing to help. The leper walked up to Jesus and threw himself down before him in worship and said, “Lord, you have the power to heal me…if you really want to”. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the leper and said, “Of course I want to heal you -be healed!”
But many of us have skepticism and unbelief planted in our heart and mind that speaks: Why would He help me? I don’t deserve healing. Does He still really heal today? I’m afraid to trust Him. As we yield to fear and figuring, instead of faith, our hearts plunge deeper into more uncertainty and confusion.
Yet the words, “I am willing,” which Jesus spoke to the leper, still ring true today for those in need of His healing, loving touch. Actually, one of God’s names in the Scriptures is the great I Am, and I Am is willing to meet us at our point of need and begin a work of restoration in our lives. While walking this earth, Jesus never rejected anyone who humbled themselves and turned to Him, leaned on Him, and confidently relied on Him for intervention and help in their lives.
Many times we attempt to put God’s healing in a box, because we want to control the plan, process, timing and way our healing takes place. But Father God is the potter and we are the clay, and only He knows how to work all things together for our good. His timing is always right! Our part is to continue to hold fast in faith and not yield to fear and doubt, as we keep leaning, trusting, and relying on Him through the emotional and spiritual process. Jesus has the power and ability to restore our inner and outer man to a place of health and well-being. His love and power never change. Jesus Christ is the same- yesterday, today, and forever- He is always available to help us in our times of need.
“And behold, a leper came up to Him and, prostrating himself, worshiped Him, saying, ‘Lord, if You are willing, You are able to cleanse me by curing me.’ And He reached out His hand and touched him, saying ‘I am willing; be cleansed by being cured.’ And instantly his leprosy was cured and cleansed”.
