Lord Give Us Courage
Psalm 27: 14
Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.
In the hidden place of our hearts we all have things we are waiting and hoping for and expecting the Lord in His time to carry out for us. As we hang on to our beliefs we may even experience times of “resting in Him” which furnishes us with relief by way of spiritual refreshment. Yet at other times when difficulty, uncertainty, or pain show up quite the opposite happens and we lose courage as we struggle to believe and wait on God to move. Suddenly our fears overwhelm us and we lose the determination to stay on our chosen course of action of trusting and waiting on God. As our hearts falter we lose the ability to bear hardship which leaves us feeling our circumstances are too long and too hard. Nonetheless waiting on God is His tool designed to work the negative traits out of our lives as He then works positive fruit into our hearts. To be able to “hope for” the Lord to act requires God to work bravery into our hearts while giving us persistent courage, especially when facing difficulty to keep on keeping on and face tomorrow. As our attention focuses on God’s Word and power to fulfill our deep desires and needs we will be able to say with courage of heart: be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord. So Lord give us courage as we expect you the “Living Lord” to help us through today and fulfill our hopes and dreams for tomorrow.
