“Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you: He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved [made to slip, fall, or fail” (Psalm 55:22).
As we consider the cares of this world, and the duties that must be taken care of, it is easy to get pulled into a state of anxiety and worry. When we are concerned about being able to fulfill our responsibilities, Satan will take the opportunity to use anxiety and fear to push, drive, and keep us from focusing on the truth of God’s promise to support, maintain, and work out whatever is pressing into our lives. When we forget how dependent we are for God’s help, we tend to take total responsibility, and carry the burden. With our hearts in this burdened condition, we fear that the heaviness of our burden is going to cause us to blunder or fail.
In spite of all that, the Lord Jesus is on our side and wants to enable our soul to walk in freedom with Him. Our Lord continuously tells us to cast our burdens on Him, for it is His will to release us from the weight of worry. Not only should we cast the critical burdens on Him, but also the minor burdens. The Gentle Shepherd cares about everything that touches our lives, and lovingly watches over our every step. During prayer we release the anxiety and worry of our hearts onto Jesus -the weight is transferred from us onto Him. In His presence our hearts are unlocked and changed, and His breathtaking Love pushes out the heaviness caused by our burdens- making room for Christ’s sustaining power. He promises that those of us who accept the sufficiency of the Lamb of God, which makes us consistently righteous in God’s sight, will not be defeated by the weight of our burdens.
