What do we do when diabolical fear overtakes our emotions and the feeling of being overwhelmed seems to paralyze our faith? At times like these, our fear feels larger than our trust and faith in God. When Jesus entered Gethsemane, Satan violently attacked Him. The adversary struck Jesus vehemently, using the power of terror and fear in an attempt to stop Jesus’ sacrificial offering. In the garden, the Lord cautioned His disciples about the tempter’s power, and counseled with word and example how to overcome the Enemy’s persuasion, by using the weapon of “crying out prayer” from the heart.Even so, the disciples slept, both physically and spiritually, as Jesus wrestled and prevailed over the Enemy! Today Satan uses this same methodology to keep us from knowing the power of God’s enormous love and to thwart us from fulfilling our God given destiny. When we find ourselves crippled with fear and terror sent from our spiritual enemy, we must learn the power of prayer, as we cry out, “Shelter me, oh Lord” from our heart and soul! Then God will push Satan back to protect and defend us from his vigorous assaults. It is God’s will that we triumph through Christ Jesus over the adversary. Shelter me, oh Lord!
“And [Jesus] began to be struck with terror and amazement and deeply troubled and depressed” (Mark 14:33b).
“Keep awake and watch and pray [constantly], that you may not enter into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again and prayed” (Mark14:38-39a).
“For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary”(Psalm 61:3).
