Adam and Eve’s firstborn son was named Cain, and he later became a farmer. Then Eve gave birth to his brother Abel, who later became a shepherd and keeper of sheep. In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of fruit from the ground he tilled. But Abel brought the firstborn of his flock, and the Lord had great respect and regard for Abel and for his offering (Genesis 4:1-6amp). In the Hebrews hall of faith, we are told that Abel’s offering pleased God the most, because “faith moved Abel to choose a more acceptable sacrifice to offer God than his brother Cain, and God declared him righteous because of his offering of faith. By his faith, Abel still speaks instruction to us today, even though he is long dead’. Without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who truly seek him (Hebrews 11:4+6tPt).
But Cain was exceedingly jealous, angry, and indignant, because he wanted to be the first and greatest in all his work and performances! God reasoned with Cain about his heart and the need to master and overcome his erroneous thoughts and feelings of being dejected. Yet, Cain would not look, listen, believe or receive what Lord Yahweh was telling him, but he chose to kill Abel his brother (Genesis 4:6-8). We are admonished in 1John 3:12, “We should not be like Cain, who yielded to the Evil One and brutally murdered his own brother, Abel. And why did he murder him, because his own actions were evil and his brother’s righteous.” In this Old Testament covenant, the Lord said to Cain, “The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground for vengeance and justice”. Then the ground that Cain tilled was cursed (Genesis 4:11-12). Cain rejected God’s way, and yielded to the Evil One and his self-elevating ego.
But in the New Testament, God offers us a new Covenant, the good news of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus, who is the perfect Lamb of God, offered Himself by shedding His blood on Calvary for the sins of mankind. Through Christ, I AM offers forgiveness, acceptance, and eternal life to all who will turn in faith towards Him and receive the gift of salvation! By faith Lord Yahweh speaks Truth, as we listen for His call, believe in His Way, and receive the Light of life! Jesus is the Mediator, the Go-between and Agent of a new covenant. Jesus Christ sprinkled blood which speaks of mercy is a better and nobler and a more gracious message than the blood of Abel, which cried out for vengeance (Hebrews 12:24).
“So, see to it that you do not reject Him or refuse to listen to and heed Him who is speaking to you now” (Hebrews12:25a). God cautions and admonishes us to come to Him – Today is the day of surrender and Salvation! Through Jesus Christ we are offered mercy instead of vengeance! Because of His Mercy and grace, Lord Yahweh longs for you to know Him- He longs to be your guide, your comforter, and meet all your needs according to His riches in glory! His love towards you is more than you can comprehend, and He longs to be the One you progressively learn to love, believe in, lean on, rely on, and trust in!
