God longs to grow in a loving, caring and giving relationship with us – a two-way relationship where we experience a freedom to go to Him and honestly express our feelings-good, bad and ugly. Jesus also wants us to learn how to hear and listen to His voice, as the Word of God speak to us, with the help of our teacher the Holy Spirit, who lives within our hearts. Because God’s love towards us is much larger than all our fears, anger, and hurt we do not have to be afraid of being rejected by Jesus when we fall short and our human weakness seems to overtake our spiritual strength. In fact, Jesus Christ gave Himself in order that the world could find freedom within the boundaries of His forgiveness and pure love! Yet even when we come to this level of spiritual experience where we connect with and love God, ourselves, and others, we can still be pulled off the positive path of enduring, believing faith and fall onto the negative highway of oppressive, weary doubt, fear, and unbelief.
It maybe something we have been praying about and waiting on for many years, or possibly a more recent request that we have been counting on God to take care of then- WHAM- we get hit by unexpected circumstances, negative feelings, thoughts, or people and we find ourselves being wearily pulled down into weary doubt or unbelief. At this point we need to remind ourselves of the Truth of drawing from God’s grace, and not growing weary in well doing, because we are promised in due season we will reap if we don’t faint. We don’t need to beat ourselves up, we need to turn back to God with our negative, hurting hearts and pour them out on Him. Even if we feel God has forgotten us, and our heart is in a state of grief- He still wants to hear all about it, so He can help us find a solution and a place of rest through Him. In reality He already knows all about what we need, but when we talk (pray) to God it changes us not Him. Remember we cannot work out our heart, mind, and emotions by ourselves- we need God’s help and His greatest desire is to shower us with His love and grace! No matter how negative we become we cannot disappoint God, because He already knows what we will do before we do it. It is God’s will to replace our negativity with His hope, love, and faithfulness, as we turn again to Him, and wait expectantly for Him to answer and lift up our sad countenance- lifting us up to a larger spiritual place of deliverance and praise!
“I will say to God my Rock, Why have You forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42: 9,11).
