The Old Testament prophesy in Isaiah 53, clearly states that the coming Messiah will come close to His redeemed people and carry our sicknesses, weaknesses, sorrow, and pain, by putting it on Himself. The New Testament reinforces this same truth, stating that Jesus Christ took away our helplessness, diseases, and disorders. Because of mankind’s fall into sin, Satan had the authority to put diseases, weaknesses, and distresses on the human race. However, on the cross, Jesus Christ paid the price for fallen mankind’s sin, creating a bridge to re-unite sinful man with a Holy God. Jesus overcame the negative power of sin and Satan, while defeating spiritual death, hell, and the grave for His beloved children. Through Jesus name we have been given the authority and opportunity to come out of bondage and discover spiritual enlightenment, physical healing, and emotional recovery. When we believe in Jesus by faith, and learn to lean, rely and confidently trust in Him, the Holy Spirit connects with our spirit and lives within our hearts- giving us the power to receive all that the Lord has purchased for us through His death, burial and resurrection. In 3John 2, John wrote Gaius, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers”. The health of our mind, heart and soul are connected and affect the health of our physical body. If the inner man is full of undealt with anger, hurt, fear, un-forgiveness, jealousy, pride, inferiority, stress, etc., it will set us up to become emotionally or physically sick. That is why it is of great importance to surrender all to Jesus (good, bad, ugly}, while allowing the Holy Spirit to minister the powerful Truth of the Logos of God’s Word to our hearts. This Truth will activate faith, transformation, and healing to our inner and outer man. God’s love is supreme, and when His love begins to heal and govern our spirits, we have the power to come against and overcome sickness. At some point in our lives, the condition of our inner man will manifest itself, either negatively or positively on our outer flesh man-“For as [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). We must also understand that our words are weighty, and they have power to bring life or release death (Proverbs 18:21). It is important to speak positive words of healing and Light! There are many such healing words of truth to be found in the Word of God. When you speak healing words, you offer yourself, and others fruit from the tree of life. Recently I was called to help a sick family in their home- all were very, very sick with a contagious flu that lasted two weeks. When I entered the household, I did not presume on the goodness of God, but made positive confessions of Truth from the Word of God for protection. I confessed these words of faith: “I stand in awe waiting for the One I love to protect me” “Lord Yaweh alone is my Savior” “He alone is my safe place” “His presence wraps around me and protects me” My Champion defends me” There is no risk of failing with God-worry will not paralyze me!” “In absolute silence and stillness I wait before the One I love, He alone is my Savior and will not fail me” “When trouble surrounds me God’s glory surrounds and covers me” “He is all I need, my Savoir, my Hero, my life giving strength”. For three days I professed and rested in these Truths, but on the fourth day my faith was tried and tested. I awoke early in the morning feeling very sick with horrible symptoms of the flu. My physical self-wanted to lie down and give into the feeling of sickness, but my spiritual self-wanted to hold on to the promises of God! So God gave me His grace, and I told God I was depending on Him, as I yielded to faith and not flesh- trusting in Jesus, no matter what I was feeling. I kept making the same positive confessions from God’s Word; I stood on His promises not on what I was feeling- I chose to depend on His Truth. By early that same evening the feelings of sickness lifted altogether, and I was completely healed! It was God’s will to heal me, but if I would have given into my weak flesh and not held on to faith the outcome would have been quite different. There are other kinds of healing-sometimes leaving our earthy body, and going to heaven is God’s plan for our perfect healing .The night my mother left her earthly body and went to her heavenly home, my daddy had a dream. In the dream the Lord told Daddy that He had healed my mother, and her healing was complete. Then Daddy woke up, as the phone rang and the call came from the hospital saying mother had passed on. She was truly alive and totally healed! God’s ways and man’s ways are very different, because God’s ways are higher and purer than ours. I believe He longs for us to understand that He wants to help us not hurt us, as we learn to surrender and release all to His eternal, loving plan. Then in turn, we will be able to accept His love, peace, and comfort while we walk on this earth, and into the hereafter. Because of Jesus, our future is bright and filled with a living hope that will never fade away. Sometimes, God uses doctors and surgery to bring healing. The Holy Spirit has given the church the gift of healing- the prayer of faith will save the sick- and the prayers of a righteous man availeth much! I don’t claim to have all the step-by-step answers about God’s healing, because I don’t believe we can put God in that kind of a box. Sometimes healing does not come immediately, but later. Sometimes healing does not come because of our need for growth. But God has the ability to use all experience for our good, and sometimes it takes what we would consider negative experience to help develop our spirits. But even suffering because of sickness will not prevent God from helping a person discover how to experience a better way of living while on temporary planet earth. Our God is a merciful and compassionate lover! “Surely He has borne our griefs [sicknesses, weaknesses, and distressed] and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain peace] and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole” (Isaiah 53:4-5). “When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and He drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick. And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases” (Matthew 8: 16-17).
